6 celebrities who run successful businesses

Date:

It may seem like being a Hollywood A-lister or a GRAMMY-winning artist would be enough for celebrities to stay busy. But many have also been building their side businesses. While some have started their own ventures in recent years, others have been in the business of side hustles for multiple decades. From flourishing beauty brands to edgy clothing lines and functional homeware brands, many celebrities have created thriving side businesses.

Drew Barrymore

The 50 First Dates star began her side hustles at an early age of 19. She co-founded the production company Flower Films with her business partner Nancy Juvonen. With time, the Flower label diversified into other industries. In over 30 years, the actor and day-time talk show host has branched out to creating brands for home decor, makeup, eyewear, and hair tools. All of these have been highly successful and popular. Apparently, in 2018, her cosmetic brand Flower Beauty made over $50 million in annual retail sales. Besides this, her collaboration with Made by Gather Founder and Chief Executive Shae Hong in 2021 led to the creation of another promising brand, Beautiful, a line of kitchenware.

Jessica Alba

While doing a load of laundry with her baby’s clothes, Jessica Alba had an allergic reaction to the detergent. She then started looking out for safe and environmentally friendly baby products. Unable to find a brand she could really trust, she decided to start her own brand, The Honest Company, which is now synonymous with the Fantastic Four actress. The company started out with a line of nontoxic diapers, and eventually got into other products like household cleaning supplies, beauty products, and nursery furniture. Over the years, it has become popular as a brand for eco-friendly and affordable childcare products. Plus, The Honest Company has grown really fast to become a billion-dollar company.

Rihanna

While the award-winning artist collected GRAMMYs for her chartbusting songs, she also launched an inclusive cosmetics brand, Fenty Beauty. Started in 2017, the brand has quickly grown to become a global name in the world of makeup. The Diamonds singer has put in a lot of work to build her beauty empire. While performing during the Super Bowl LVII halftime show, Rihanna used her own brand’s setting powder on stage, skyrocketing its sales after the game. Beginning with makeup basics like concealer and foundation, the brand now includes tons of other products like lip glosses, lipsticks, primers, and everything needed for ultra-glam to subtle makeup looks as well as skincare. What makes Fenty Beauty stand out is the impressive range of shades it offers. Its immense popularity has made Fenty Beauty worth over $2.8 billion, as of 2021. In fact, it has become one of the most successful celebrity beauty brands in the world.

Kate Hudson

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress has added her star power to athleisure wear for more than decade. The Oscar nominee partnered with TechStyle Fashion Group’s Chief Executive Officers Don Ressler and Adam Goldenberg in 2013 to co-found the athleisure brand, Fabletics. She also became the public face of the brand. Offering a range of active wear, Fabletics has become one of the most popular women’s sportswear brands. In 2020, the brand roped in Kevin Hart to launch the menswear line with a collection of golf attire and sweatsuits.

Jennifer Garner

The actress who recently reprised her role of superhero Elektra Natchios with a cameo in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, co-founded a baby food business back in 2015. Founded by entrepreneurs Ari Raz and Cassandra Curtis, the brand Once Upon a Farm has become popular for their cold-pressed smoothies. Their other products include plant-rich baby meals as well as organic snack bars for everyone in the family. Available across 13,000 stores nationwide, the brand has Jennifer Garner really involved in her role as a co-founder. In fact, she likes to call herself Farmer Jen since she has roped in her family farm in Locust Grove, Oklahoma to source ingredients for Once Upon a Farm products. With a reported sales of over $100 million, this brand has earned The Clean Label Project certification.

Selena Gomez

One of the most followed celebrities on social media, Selena Gomez has come a long way since her Disney days. She might have been only acting to cast spells in her show Wizards of Waverly Place, but this actor-executive producer/artist has really weaved her magic in building up her makeup brand, Rare Beauty. As she belts out chart-topping billboard hits, her brand rolls out some of the best selling liquid blushes. In fact, the mere $23 liquid blush is considered the top-selling product of Rare Beauty. It earned the brand reportedly $70 million in sales in 2022. Besides this, the brand’s other popular products include brow gels, lip oils, and eyeshadow sticks.
