Hyundai Tucson – Key features and money-saving tips for seniors

Date:

The Hyundai Tucson is a small crossover SUV that is available in gas and hybrid variants. Although compact, the SUV offers enough space, safety, and power. The Tucson is also a suitable option for seniors who want to save money on fuel, as it offers great fuel economy. With its base variant reasonably priced, the vehicle offers great value for money. That said, if considering this SUV, it is important to know its key features.

Key features

1. Performance

Hyundai equips the gas-only Tucson with a 2.5-liter engine that delivers 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the new Tucson Hybrid gets a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that offers more torque and power, making 258 lb-ft and 226 hp, respectively. The hybrid variant also stands out due to its crisp steering, smooth handling, and quick acceleration. It goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 7.7 seconds, which is the quickest in the hybrid crossover SUV segment. The standard six-speed automatic transmission also contributes to the smooth driving experience. Another highlight is the responsive braking system, helping drivers avoid collisions. The Hybrid is also equipped with an all-wheel-drive system, which helps the vehicle maintain its stability while going around corners at a high speed.

2. Interior and comfort

Hyundai does not compromise on comfort, equipping the Tucson models with plush, leather-trimmed seats. The compact SUV can seat five people. The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid also offers features like heated front seats and a hands-free tailgate, which seniors would appreciate. Another notable feature is the legroom, with both front and rear sections offering over 41 inches of leg space. This feature helps the SUV accommodate tall passengers and drivers. Additionally, a height-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support and a six-way manually adjustable passenger seat are standard features across trims. The seats and mirror can also be heated when driving in cold weather.

3. Technology

Seniors will find all the modern conveniences in the new Hyundai Tucson and Tucson Hybrid, whether they are looking for infotainment features or driving assistance. Seniors can also make the most of a 10.3-inch display, which comes with responsive menus and navigation. The SUV’s six-speaker audio system provides crisp sound. It is also easy for occupants to wirelessly connect their smartphones to the infotainment system. A wireless charging station and voice recognition system are other key features seniors can enjoy in their Tucson.

As for driving assistance, the SUV comes with standard features like a blind-spot and lane-departure warning systems, lane-keep assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert, and pre- and post-collision safety systems. Each model also has dual front and rear side-mounted airbags, front and rear head airbags, and stability and traction control systems.

4. Storage

Space will not be a concern for Tucson Hybrid buyers, as the SUV offers 38.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. The vehicle has a flat floor and a low liftover height, making it easy to stash luggage and other cargo. The Tucson also has a few dedicated storage slots for smaller items like cups and books.

5. Fuel economy

The Tucson Hybrid does exceptionally well when it comes to fuel efficiency, offering a combined economy of 37 mpg. The gas-only variant, on the other hand, offers just 26 mpg on city roads and 33 mpg on the highway.

Price

The gas-only variant of the Tucson is available at a starting price of $28,000. The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid costs about $34,000. If one opts for higher trims, the price can go a little over $46,000. Although the base variants are reasonably priced, one can save even more money by looking for special offers on the Hyundai Tucson at dealerships nearby.

Tips to save money

While Hyundai itself might not offer seniors exclusive deals on the Hyundai Tucson and Tucson Hybrid, senior buyers can still find a few ways to save money on the SUV purchase.

1. Wait for sales

If buying an SUV is not an urgent requirement, then seniors should wait for holiday promotions and year-end clearance sales on the new Hyundai Tucson to get discounts.

2. Look for discounts

Some dealerships may list special prices for seniors or offer cashback and discounts to older adults buying the Hyundai Tucson. Additionally, automakers like Hyundai may offer rebates that help buyers save money.

3. Compare multiple sellers

It is important to get quotes from more than one seller to find the lowest-priced option.

4. Consider certified pre-owned dealerships

While a brand-new SUV might be the first preference, seniors can consider buying a pre-owned Hyundai Tucson from a certified pre-owned dealership near them. The vehicles here tend to carry lower prices and better warranty packages.

5. Look for trade-in offers

Trading in an old vehicle can help seniors use the resale price toward the purchase of a new Tucson.

6. Explore financing options

Dealerships and even automakers may offer low-interest financing options or deals on payment methods to encourage buyers to make quick purchases. Seniors can consider looking for such options to bring home the SUV at a minimum out-of-pocket upfront cost.

To make an informed decision regarding the variant one wants, it is best to visit a dealership and schedule a test drive. One can find a local dealer by using a search engine to look up Hyundai Tucson Hybrid sellers and offers nearby.
