Jeep Wrangler – Features and money-saving tips

Date:

The Jeep Wrangler is a well-known off-road SUV with a distinctive design. While many other SUVs promise similar off-roading capabilities, the Wrangler is among the few with various powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid version offering a 22-mile all-electric range. The Wrangler continues to feature both two- and four-door variants, offering buyers some choice in terms of cargo space, seating capacity, and performance. The Wrangler also offers other features that make it worth considering.

Features

Performance

The Jeep Wrangler has always prioritized off-roading performance, and for good reason. Its ability to handle rough terrains is what makes it popular among adventure enthusiasts. Its Rubicon trim particularly offers a combination of speed and superior handling. That said, all trims can be paired with packages that enhance the off-roading capabilities of the SUV. The Wrangler comes with a ground clearance of 9.7 inches, which is way more than a regular SUV offers. This ride height helps the vehicle absorb all the shocks on bumpy roads.

Depending on the trim one chooses, the Jeep Wrangler could be equipped with a V6, turbocharged four-cylinder, or V8 engine and paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Irrespective of the variant, the Wrangler comes with a responsive braking system designed for gradual halting, ensuring the driver’s safety and adequate stopping distance in emergencies. As for power, the SUV can generate anywhere between 270 and 470 hp.

In terms of mileage, the Jeep Wrangler can offer a fuel economy of 17 mpg on city roads, 23 mpg on highways, and a combined rating of 19 mpg. This is standard for an off-roading vehicle of its size.

Comfort and interior

Although the Wrangler is not known to be a luxurious vehicle, it does its best to ensure ride comfort, thanks to its ground clearance. Occupants will not be bothered by potholes, bumps, and uneven roads. While this does mean that the vehicle rests a little high above the ground, the SUV has pillar-mounted grab handles for ease of entry.

As for the interiors, the Jeep has a refined and appealing cabin with available power-adjustable front seats and leather upholstery. The Sahara trim comes with automatic climate control, while heated front seats and steering wheel are standard features in multiple trims.

Technology

The Jeep Wrangler comes with a big central touchscreen, which responds well to touch commands. Seamless Android Auto and Wireless CarPlay smartphone integration is standard across models. Buyers can also expect key safety features and driver assistance technology like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning system, blindspot monitoring system, and rear parking sensors in their Wrangler. However, these features are not standard across trims. The Rubicon 392 trim comes with high-performance brakes, which elevate off-roading safety and ease.

Storage and towing capacity

When choosing any off-roading automobile, ample storage and towing capacity are often among the first things buyers notice. The Jeep Wrangler does not disappoint here. While not the most spacious option, the SUV can accommodate a few large items, especially in higher trim levels. Buyers can expect a cargo space of up to 31.7 cubic feet. The towing capacity is decent, set at 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. The vehicle can also be flat-towed behind a motorhome.

Pricing

The Jeep Wrangler comes in various configurations, so its price varies accordingly. One can look up “Jeep Wrangler for sale nearby” to find dealerships in the area and their contact information. Scheduling a test drive is the best way to determine if it is a suitable vehicle for one.

Buyers can choose from Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon, and Rubicon 392 trims. The starting price is $31,895, but it can vary slightly based on the dealership, location, and configuration one chooses. The overall upfront price can go up to $101,000 for the highest trim level. Additionally, increasing the door count from two to four for the entry-level models can increase the sticker price by $4,000.

To save money on the purchase, one can wait for end-of-year sales. Many buyers also tend to sell their older models owing to the Wrangler’s excellent resale value. That said, certain pre-owned may carry extremely affordable price tags.

Tips to find a low-cost Jeep Wrangler model

  • Check local classifieds and community bulletin boards for a pre-owned Jeep Wrangler model. The older the model, the cheaper it will be.
  • Visit online marketplaces for used cars. Here, one might be able to find a listing for a used $1,500 Jeep Wrangler. That said, one should be prepared to spend on repairs to make the vehicle function as it should.
  • Looking up local car auctions is also a great way to find budget-friendly options. Here, one may be able to find a Jeep Wrangler and bid on it as per their budget.
  • Contact local dealerships and used car lots to see if they are offering good deals on old Jeep models.
  • Look up the “best Jeep Wrangler deals” on a search engine to find contact information of local dealers willing to sell the vehicle for a discount.
  • Finally, find and join online or offline automotive clubs or enthusiast groups for any leads on affordable Jeep Wrangler for sale.
