With Halloween right around the corner, one of the worst feelings is when one realizes one hasn’t purchased their costumes yet. With the celebrations closing by, almost all the shops must’ve already run out of the best outfits, leaving one with limited choices. But there are some great last-minute Halloween costume ideas that one can try in such instances. Some of these costumes also require one to tap into their creativity and DIY the ensemble.
1. Ash Ketchum
Fans of the animated series Pokemon will especially love this Halloween costume idea. With just a few simple clothing items, they can perfectly dress up as the show’s lead character, Ash Ketchum. All that is needed for this ensemble is a blue vest (with either a zip or buttons), a plain white tee, a red trucker hat, and a pair of light blue denim. If one can find a pair of green gloves, one can cut off the gloves’ fingers to perfectly complement the costume. It would be even better if one could find a baseball (or any other circular object of that size) and paint it red and white to resemble a ‘Pokeball.’
2. A tetris costume
One of the simplest Halloween costumes that one can make themselves, and that too in just a few minutes, is a Tetris costume. It will be a perfect combination of creativity and simplicity. For the costume, one would need a plain black T-shirt and a pair of plain black pants to create a neutral background. Also, one would need a few Post-it notes of different colors. If one does not have Post-its, one can also use evenly cut pieces of paper or duct tape, provided they are in different colors. Stick these Post-its or papers on the black T-shirt (in a grid format) to resemble a game of Tetris—and the costume is ready.
3. Dora the Explorer
This is another popular costume idea for fans of children’s shows. The character has a signature outfit that is simple to create, making it a great idea for a last-minute Halloween costume. To dress up as Dora the Explorer, all one would need a pink tee, a pair of orange shorts, and a backpack. Since Dora has a bob-style haircut, one should adjust one’s hair to match the look perfectly. To further stylize the look, one can even carry a purple bag and a big parchment paper resembling Dora’s map.
4. An identity thief
Like the Tetris costume, this outfit also perfectly balances creativity and simplicity. Moreover, it takes only a few minutes to make the entire costume. For this last-minute Halloween outfit, one would need a black T-shirt and a pair of black pants—simply to create a neutral look that highlights the main elements. Along with that, one would need a few nametag stickers to create the ‘main element.’ On each of these nametag stickers, one can write different names and stick those on their T-shirt to create the outfit.
5. A bunch of grapes
To make this fun costume, all one needs is a few purple or green balloons, some green construction paper, and their regular outfit. Blow up these balloons and stick them on one’s outfit—preferably a jumpsuit or a leotard—to create a bunch of grapes. The outfit would look more finished if the bunch of grapes had their leaves on top—which is why the green construction paper. Cut this paper into the shape of a couple of leaves, stick it to a hairpin, and put on the hairpin. Instead of this, one can also consider wearing a green scarf around their neck to create the look of leaves.
6. Nancy Drew
One of the most popular fictional detectives, Nancy Drew, also has a signature and simple outfit that can be perfect for a Halloween costume. While Nancy Drew has quite a few different outfits, the one element that remains constant in all of those is her plaid, pleated skirt. So, that is the main item of clothing that one would need. Along with that, one would need a solid-colored top—preferably yellow or pink, and a headband that matches the top. One would also need a magnifying glass to create the perfect ensemble.
7. Zombie
To stick to the true spooky feeling of Halloween, one can also consider dressing up as a zombie. For this costume, all one needs is a few old clothes, preferably tattered, for the ‘zombie’ look. If one does not have tattered clothes, one can pick a few old clothes they do not mind damaging and tear them in a few places using scissors. Then, splatter some red paint or food coloring in a few places to resemble blood. One would also need to get creative with one’s makeup to look like a zombie. For this, one can consider applying some eye shadow to create smokey eyes and some red food coloring with a safe adhesive on the face for a gruesome look.
8. Skeleton
With white duct tape, one can create a perfect skeleton costume for Halloween in just a few minutes. For this costume, too, one would need a plain black T-shirt and a pair of black pants. Then, using the white duct tape, one can create a skeletal figure on these clothes—like a few pieces of duct tape stuck parallelly on the chest to create the rib cage. To entertain their guests and truly liven up one’s costume, one can also consider learning a skeleton dance for the party.
